Grapes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Climate Vintage: A warm, consistent summer was bracketed by an early spring budbreak and several late summer hot spells, creating growing conditions that allowed for a harvest period of two weeks ahead of normal. The 2004 harvest was early, and the crop was small giving Cabernet Sauvignon grape clusters with small berries and ripe flavors.
Vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested from the townsend single vineyard, 24 acres in size. The vineyard is planted at an elevation of 1460 feet, in the volcanic soil series Perkins Gravelly Loam. The vineyard is planted at a vine density of 2233 vines per acre and divided between 4 distinct Cabernet Sauvignon clones that contribute to the wine's complexity through the clonal diversity. Clones See, 15, 337, and 7 offer complexity in flavors and rich, concentrated fruit. While Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Townsend vineyard have been harvested since 2001, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon marks the first vintage for Antica Napa Valley.
